ARAB WOMEN'S
FILM FESTVAL

Banco do Brasil presents and sponsors the Arab Women’s Film Festival, a selection of 34 works directed exclusively by Arab women.

In its 3rd edition, the festival showcases films, most of them unreleased  in Brazil, with productions and co-productions from various countries such as Algeria, France, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Morocco, Denmark, Syria, with different formats and genres–fiction and documentary shorts, medium-length and feature films–unveiling  the manifold nature of this cinematography. A program of free events, featuring  accessible sessions, as well as activities such as round tables, debates and masterclasses.

By implementing this project, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil reaffirms its support for cinematographic art and its commitment to broadening the relationship between Brazilians and culture, offering a film festival that values the diversity of the film industry with female productions.

Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil

Welcome to the 3rd Women’sArab Film Festival, which takes place from March 22 to May 14, 2023, in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and São Paulo. We are delighted to reaffirm our desire to share, with the Brazilian public, dozens of films,  all directed by Arab women.

In this edition, we bring together several dialogues between cinema and the visual arts by directors such as Basma Alsharif, Larissa Sansour, Meriem Benanni and Jumana Manna. Films with diverse aesthetics and forms of expression, vivid images that, we believe, the Brazilian public should have a greater access to.

For 2023, we will pay tribute to the great Algerian director and writer Assia Djebar, showing the two feature films she directed in her lifetime: La Nouba des Femmes du Mont-Chenoua and La Zerda et les Chants de l’Oubli. In addition to this tribute, we will also focus on three filmmakers: Meriem Bennani, Azza El Hassan and Basma Alsharif. We will also have the pleasure of receiving  in Brazil the filmmakers Eliane Raheb, Soudade Kaadan and Jumana Manna, who will each minister a masterclass.

The programme includes film screenings, commented sessions, debates, masterclasses and round tables. All activities are free. Check your city’s schedule.
