The singing of Margaridas

The March of the Daisies, which takes place every four years in the nation’s capital, is a movement led by rural and forest women. We left Pernambuco by bus with some of them heading to the 2019 protest, held during the first year of an ultraconservative government. Echoing important feminist maxims, this collective and participatory documentary highlights that political organization is also built through encounters, friendships, intimate conversations, and artistic expressions.

The Women in Audiovisual Pernambuco (MAPE) movement was founded in June 2016, a year marked by numerous political and social conflicts and setbacks. Understanding audiovisual media as a field and instrument of struggle, we position ourselves as allies in the pursuit of equal rights and equitable relations not only within the audiovisual sector but also within society as a whole. We consider our actions and political guidelines based on the intersectionality of gender, sexuality, race, and class, and have prioritized the following areas of action: theoretical, political, and technical training; collective film production; dissemination of works by women; advocacy for affirmative action policies; and denunciation of prejudiced behavior and behavior involving physical or symbolic violence. MAPE’s mission is to build bridges between diverse women, forming a network of affection and sharing of lives and knowledge that are part of the struggle for a more just society for all.
